How To Find Meaning In Your Job And Work HappilyHow To Find Meaning In Your Job And Work Happily

Perfect jobs that provide meaning and satisfaction 24/7 might well be illusory. Even dream jobs can become dreary or stressful or appear to lack meaning, and happiness, as a result, becomes elusive.

It is possible to work happily and find meaning in your own job if you incorporate a few key principles and actions into your mind map.

Quitting a job you’ve held for so long can be intimidating and liberating at the same time. Yes, there’s a feeling of excitement because you’ve just broken free of something you didn’t really like participating in. But at the same point in time, there’s also a feeling of anxiety because the moments after quitting a job can seem unknown and vague to you. At the end of the day, though, quitting a job, like any other life event, can reward you with life lessons you might not have known if you hadn’t quit your job:

Time is a gift; if someone gives you theirs, make sure they know you’re grateful

This weekend, I had the pleasure of attending my dear friend Dara Lynn’s baby shower.  Over a luncheon of New England clam chowder, sirloin steak tips and flourless chocolate cake, I caught up with some of her friends from law school.  Sitting across from two attorneys (Amanda, an entertainment lawyer and Andrea, who works predominantly in government), the subject of networking and responding to requests from people who were looking for their career advice arose.  Like many successful professionals, the two women are happy to help those who reach out to them for their professional opinion and guidance.  However, they were somewhat incredulous over the number of people who failed to thank them for their time afterward.
Let me take a moment to remind everyone of the power of the thank-you note.

I asked a number of different people what advice they would give their younger selves. The responses are unedited below and are directly from responders to this question:

There are cycles of excitement, enthusiasm, creativity, and they are followed by despair, discouragement, and the desire to quit.
In order to succeed, you must break through the discouragement and carry on until the finish line. Here are 7 things to do when you feel like you want to give up.

However, that’s not the case at all! They manage to excel in their industry and make millions of dollars because of their amazing beliefs.
What are some of them? Here they are:

do you use your brain ?

What percentage of your brain do you use

Two thirds of the population believes a myth that has been propagated for over a century: that we use only 10% of our brains. Hardly! Our neuron-dense brains have evolved to use the least amount of energy while carrying the most information possible — a feat that requires the entire brain. Richard E. Cytowic debunks this neurological myth (and explains why we aren’t so good at multitasking).
