James Merrill
James Merrill was born in 1926. He was an award-winning poet and received the esteemed Pulitzer Prize for Poetry for his work Divine Comedies. In 1953, after a performance of Merrill’s play, The Bait, he
met David Jackson, a writer and artist. Together, they moved to
Connecticut, and stayed in a relationship for more than four decades. In
1983, he entered into a relationship with actor Peter Hooten. He stayed
with Hooten till his death in 1995, aged 68.
