What does Independence Day REALLY mean?

The fireworks are nice. The parades are a treat. The parties are heaps of fun.
But what do you see when you dive deeper into the idea of Independence Day, and look for its true meaning?

I see freedom. Not so much political or nationalistic freedom, but personal freedom.
I have the freedom to make a difference in the world.
I have the freedom to love the people that matter to me.
I have the freedom to pursue my goals.
I have the freedom to express gratitude.
I have the freedom to dream.
